Materials Required:
Black binder or notebook with at least three tabs: 1) Reading Notes, 2) Vocabulary Notes, 3) Assignments/Interviews, etc.
Note: Grading will not occur until proper materials are presented to class leader/instructor
Policies:
Organizational Structure of the Class- Each cadet in this course has a professional title. Job duties must be carried
out according to that title. For example, an editor-in-chief will authorize the entire process of the newspaper, whereas a
production artist will only oversee layout and design. Just as in ROTC, cadets follow the chain of command.
Class Leader- A class leader is different than the editor-in-chief. The leader is authorized to 1) take attendance, 2)
write merits/demerits as directed, 3) escort reporters to their scheduled interviews, 4) distribute supplies, and 5) read
announcements. If done correctly, the leader receives a participation grade of A.
Late Work- Journalism is synonymous with DEADLINES. No late work is accepted.
Discipline:
1st offense: Verbal warning, class leader makes a note
2nd offense: Demerits assigned by class leader, one minute after class
3rd offense: Parent conference to determine privilege revoked. At this time cadet 1) writes a sincere letter of commitment
as determined by instructor and parent or 2) is scheduled to attend Saturday detention

Cornell notes on readings 15%
Weekly assignments 10%
Vocabulary notes, Cornell style 10%
Weekly Exams 20%
