Application for Journalism Roles:
Editor in Chief- Not only
writes articles and opinion pieces, but oversees the entire newspaper. If an error is made, this person is responsible. This
means correcting spelling, grammar, photo placement, article placement, the content of the paper, etc. This person will learn
and be able to teach the other staff members how to conduct interviews, write all types of articles, set up and publish the
paper using computers. On Mondays this person runs a meeting in which the staff is assigned their articles. This role is also
responsible for input when it comes to the grading process. This is a job that requires staying after school a few times a
month or coming in on Saturdays. This person, if using time wisely, is likely to receive an A. College recommendations are
also given.
Feature Editor/ Asst. Feature Editor-
Not only writes articles of human interest (community issues, teen issues, one-on-one Q & A, etc.) but oversees other
reporters whom they will also evaluate. This role includes the computer production of the FEATURE PAGE before handing it to
the Editor in Chief for approval.
Service Learning Editor/ Asst.
Editor- Not only writes articles of service learning projects. but oversees other reporters whom they will also evaluate.
This role includes the computer production of the SERVICE LEARNING PAGE before handing it to the Editor in Chief for approval.
Entertainment Editor/ Asst. Editor-
Not only writes articles of music, movies, plays, television, etc. but oversees other reporters whom they will also evaluate.
This role includes the computer production of the ENTERTAINMENT PAGE before handing it to the Editor in Chief for approval.
This person is also responsible for the calendar.
JROTC Editor/ Asst. Editor-
Not only writes articles of what is happening in JROTC, (such as drill competitions, parades, upcoming events, etc.) but oversees
other reporters whom they will also evaluate. This role includes the computer production of the JROTC PAGE before handing
it to the Editor in Chief for approval.
Photographer/Asst. Photographer
– Responsible for creating an assignment page (work with the editors to get your assignments and listen closely during
Monday meetings). Makes suggestions on a daily basis. Take photos and load them onto the yearbook/newspaper server.
